Stagetext are seeking an additional Trustee with expertise in the Museums sector to join our Board of Trustees, currently comprising nine members, six of whom are d/Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing.
Stagetext are a charity who increase access to arts and culture for people with any form of hearing loss by advocating for and supplying captioning in theatres, and by producing live subtitles for museums and galleries, as well providing digital subtitles for cultural content.
We want to see a society where arts and cultural venues present no barriers to people who are d/Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing. More information can be found throughout our website www.stagetext.org.
Each year, we caption over 320 theatre performances, and live subtitle over 150 talks and tours in museums and galleries across the UK. We also train cultural venues on deaf awareness and support them to deliver captions and digital subtitles themselves. We are actively engaged in the development of new technologies and new markets and are committed to providing verbatim captioning and subtitling services of the highest quality.
Our live subtitling service, delivered in partnership with MyClearText, uses highly trained Speech-to-Text Reporters (STTRs) to produce verbatim text of the highest quality and standard. As well as talks and tours in museums and galleries, live subtitling is widely used for conferences within the cultural sector. Live subtitling is a growing part of our provision of access for d/Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing users and we are keen to hear from candidates with sector expertise.
Our Board is very strong and committed and has recently recruited a new Chair, Robin Saphra. We are keen to find a new Trustee who can help strengthen Stagetext’s position within the Museums sector.
You will need to have enough spare time to be able to attend four Board meetings per year, as well as play a role on some of our sub-committees which meet on an ad hoc basis. We would particularly like to talk to people who are skilled in strategy development and creative thinking and who have sound judgement and good team-working abilities.
We are keen to receive applications from all sections of the community in order to diversify our Board.
If you would like to join the Board of Stagetext, please email our Chief Executive, Melanie Sharpe email@example.com and Deputy Chief Executive, Liz Hilder firstname.lastname@example.org, telling us something of your skills and experience and letting us know why you would like to join the Board, along with an outline of any access requirements. This is an unpaid position.
