Every word counts

Emil and the Detectives at National Theatre

By Marian Yates

When I decided to try to see this play I emailed my nephew and his wife to see if they would like to accompany me.  They have 3 sons Barney, Joe and Ted aged 11, 8 and 6.  I had to add that the only performance I had access to was the one which was captioned on 9th February at 2pm because I am profoundly deaf. They replied almost immediately that they thought the boys would love it and they would all come.  I was delighted and we were not disappointed.  Our seats were perfect for viewing the captions and for the children to have a very good view.  The theatre sent me a synopsis of the story with photos of the actors on stage all of which helps me to follow what is going on and so make the experience more enjoyable.  The play was fast flowing, exciting, and beautifully staged. The end had a real ‘feel good’ factor and children and adults enjoyed it immensely.  So thank you to STAGETEXT for making the whole venture possible for me in the first place, and I must add a thank you to the National Theatre for the generous discount on 2 of the tickets.
