Curator talk: Angelica Kauffman image
Synopsis:

Curator Annette Wickham explores the works of one of the most celebrated artists of the 18th century.
In this talk, curator Annette Wickham introduces our Angelica Kauffman exhibition, highlighting Kauffman’s remarkable portraits of celebrity contemporaries and pioneering history paintings.

Angelica Kauffman RA was one of only two female founding members of the Royal Academy. Born in Switzerland, she spent 15 years in England where she made a profound impact on the London art scene of the 18th century, before moving to Rome in 1782.

Annette will explore Kauffman’s life and works, providing a closer look at the paintings and works on paper in the show – from the artist’s self-portraits to her celebrated ceiling paintings for the Royal Academy’s first home in Somerset House.
