Every word counts

Fundraise in aid of Stagetext

"I went to see King Lear at Donmar Warehouse with Derek Jacobi and Stagetext captions, and I sobbed, held my breath and came out completely exhausted by the amazing work I had just witnessed... Stagetext saved my life."

Stagetext exists to make arts and culture accessible to the one in six of us who are d/Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing. We help cultural venues remove the barriers to access, so you don’t miss a word.

We’re a d/Deaf-led charity, and alongside our Arts Council funding, we need to raise an additional £65,000 this year to bring captions and live subtitles to theatres, museums, and all kinds of cultural spaces across the UK. Whether a one-off donation or a sponsored fundraising challenge, your support makes all the difference. Thank you!

Here are our top tips for fundraising in aid of Stagetext:

Be Inspired

Marathons, bake sales, sponsored silences or collecting coins in a piggy bank - your fundraising idea can as big or as small as you want.

Let us know ahead of time what you’re planning and when it’s happening, and we’ll help to promote your event on social media

Don't forget:

  • Let us know all the details of your idea(s) by emailing alic@stagetext.org
  • Set yourself a fundraising target
  • Decide if you’ll be collecting donations online or in person
  • Don't forget Gift Aid*

Helpful Resources

We know how much time and effort goes into fundraising, so we’ve prepared a few resources to make things easy:

Thanks for your support

If you’ve collected money online, the donations are sent directly to Stagetext. Thank you!

If you’ve collected money in person, there are a couple of ways you can send us what you’ve raised:

  1. Online: Tot up your total and make the equivalent donation via www.virginmoneygiving.com.
  2. By cheque: Send a cheque made payable to Stagetext, along with the sponsorship form (if you've used one) to: Stagetext, 81 County St, London, SE1 4AD

You can also make regular or one-off donations:

*Gift Aid is a government initiative that means we can claim extra 25p for every pound donated by UK taxpayers. To include Gift Aid, simply tick the box online or encourage people to complete the Gift Aid section of the sponsorship form.

Fundraising FAQs

You can hold any event you like! In the past we have seen people run marathons, hold bake sales, put on fundraising dinners, but you can hold any fundraising event, big or small.

Please remember when organising events to raise money in aid of a charity, you are responsible for the health & safety and all liability for the event.

We love to show our support for everyone who has taken the time and effort to raise money in aid of Stagetext, unfortunately we are a very small charity and can't be at every event.

However, if you let us know about the event we can help you with resources, promote via our social media channels, and we would love to do a write up for our website, get in contact with alic@stagetext.org.

After the event, make sure to shout about your achievements! Send us photos and tell us your story so we can thank you for your efforts.
