Oxford University’s associate professor of African politics, Simukai Chigudu is part of the ‘Born Free’ generation, raised as colonial rule ended in Zimbabwe. In Chasing Freedom, he details a childhood steeped in Britishness – from Shakespeare to cricket – before being forced to leave the country as it descended into political violence and economic collapse.
