In 2024, we entered a new era. The newly elected North East Mayor, Kim McGuinness, ushered in a significant shift of power. Devolution promises greater control of our own destiny.
Inspired by this seismic change as we look ahead, New Writing North and Redhills commissioned 12 vibrant new essays from the north’s leading talent, offering new narratives for the North East.
Join three of them – Arlen Pettitt, Louise Powell and Richard Benson – as they explore the themes of their essays: the changing face of masculinity in the North East; the need to rebuild social infrastructure; and an interrogation of the North-East’s stereotypes and tired tropes.
Chaired by Anna Disley, New Writing North.
