Nick Willing, Colin Wiggins and Priyesh Mistry reflect on Dame Paula Rego’s time at the National Gallery
 
Portuguese-British artist Dame Paula Rego was the National Gallery’s first associate artist between 1990 and 1992. 
On the occasion of our acclaimed exhibition, ‘Paula Rego: Crivelli’s Garden’ we delve into conversation with writer and director Nick Willing, son of Paula Rego, and Collin Wiggins, who worked closely with Paula Rego during her time at the Gallery.
The discussion will explore Rego’s life and work, as well as the characters she depicted, including the strong and courageous women seen in ‘Crivelli’s Garden’, the mural she was commissioned to create for the National Gallery, which took inspiration from an altarpiece by 15th-century Italian artist Carlo Crivelli. Many of these characters were based on people she knew, including friends, family, and members of the National Gallery at the time.
