Synopsis:

Come and connect with some of the leading editors and publishers working in the publishing industry today – Aliya Gulamani, Commissioning Editor at Unbound, the world’s first crowdfunding publisher, Eishar Brar, Editorial Director at Knights Of, an inclusive publisher focused on publishing underrepresented voices and Marianne Tatepo, Publishing Director for Penguin Random House non-fiction imprint, Square Peg (Vintage).
 
You’ll get an insight into what an editor does, how they work with writers and the opportunity to discuss and ask questions about the publishing industry. The event will be hosted by Spread the Word’s Bobby Nayyar.

About the artists:
 
Aliya Gulamani is an award-winning commissioning editor at Unbound – the world’s first crowdfunding publisher. She is also the Editorial Lead for Unbound Firsts, an imprint for debut writers of colour. In 2022, Aliya was selected as one of the Bookseller’s Rising Stars and awarded The Ola Gotkowska Young Independent Publisher of the Year Award. Aliya is also a manuscript assessment reader for The Literary Consultancy, and is currently a Trustee at Bookworks.
 
Eishar Brar is Editorial Director at Knights Of, an inclusive publisher focused on publishing underrepresented voices. In her role she creates space for non-trauma led narratives and aims to widen the scope of authentic and representative publishing through her commissioning. In 2021 she was named a Bookseller Rising Star. She has been shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award for A Kind of Spark, which also went on to win the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.
 
Marianne Tatepo is the founder of the Black Agents & Editors’ Group (BAE) and the Publishing Director for the Penguin Random House non-fiction imprint, Square Peg (Vintage). Previously, Marianne was Commissioning Editor for Ebury Press & Pop Press (Penguin Random House UK), publishing nonfiction books, with a focus on lifestyle and illustrated publications.
