It’s been described as ‘a tour de force’ and ‘one of the finest humanist novels of its age’. Without doubt, Ian McEwan’s Lessons is a towering achievement by one of Britain’s greatest living writers. In today’s session, he discusses how much of himself he has woven into his novel, and about the tsunami of 20th century history that carries along his thoughtful protagonist Roland Baines.
