An informal conversation bringing practitioners, academics and users together to discuss the different practices related to subtitling characters’ accents, intonation and pitch.
Traditionally, subtitles have focused on transcribing the words spoken, with occasional labels given to accents. We want to explore whether more information on vocal characteristics, such as intonation and pitch, can be included. How does this impact the experience of using subtitles? Does it help or hinder understanding? Are there certain circumstances where more information can be added, and others where less should be added? How should these elements be described?
