British Council presents: Taking Place, Inspiring vibrant communities image
Synopsis:

Taking Place is a conference to convene experts working in the field of architecture, urban development and cultural districts. The aim of the gathering is to inspire the exchange of experiences and ideas to support the growth of a global network of experts working in the field. The Covid Pandemic combined with the increased appetite for online retail stores led to shutters going down on shopfronts in high streets across the UK and vibrant places lost their footfall. The conference will share imaginative examples from across the world of how these neglected places are being reinvented to engage people, improve wellbeing and strengthen local communities and businesses. The conference will also explore how new technologies are being used to motivate more offline interactions. Hosted by Rehana Mughal, Director of Creative Economy, British Council.

Taking Place will be live streamed from British Council headquarters in Stratford. We’re thrilled to be welcoming delegates from all over the world including Hong Kong, the USA, Egypt, Indonesia, Europe, Mexico, India, Japan, and the UK. An exciting line up of international speakers includes Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries in London.
