In 1978, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, entertained US President Jimmy Carter in Tehran where they congratulated themselves on a peaceful period in both their countries. A year later, the Shah was dethroned in a violent revolution led by the exiled Ayatollah Khomeini and his supporters. Pulitzer Prize shortlistee Scott Anderson joins us to discuss King of Kings, a finely-researched, thrilling account of the last days of the Shah’s regime and how it set the tone for US-Iran relations to this day.
