Stagetext talks accessible theatre in The Stage

Our Head of Training and Theatre, Olivia Durkin recently met with Holly O’Mahony from The Stage to talk about the future of accessible theatre.

Olivia shared insights about our journey from captioning a single performance in 2000 to supporting over 400 shows this year and how there has been an “attitudinal shift” regarding access, with theatre companies wising up to the need for equity and inclusion among audience members.

The article brings together voices from right across the industry: the Royal Shakespeare Company’s pioneering work translating Shakespeare into British Sign Language, smaller venues developing integrated access from the ground up, and how tech is changing the landscape of access.
