Response to the Mendoza Review

Response to the Mendoza Review

The Mendoza Review released on 14 November, is an independent review outlining key recommendations for how the government can support the museums sector in England.

Disappointingly, while it does talk about inclusion and diversity, it doesn’t cover access for d/Deaf and disabled people.

There are a growing number of museums who, with the help of organisations like Stagetext and VocalEyes, are working hard to make themselves accessible and welcoming to d/Deaf and disabled people. We strive to replicate these successes as part of our mission to make arts and culture open to all. We look to major influencers, stakeholders and funders including the government to support us in our mission by including access in their reports and strategies as a priority.

We don’t think that it is right for these issues to have been left out of the report and have issued an official joint statement with our colleagues at VocalEyes.
