Guildhall student Rosey Lock becomes Stagetext’s newest captioner

Congratulations to Guildhall School of Speech & Drama student Rosey Lock on passing her Stagetext Certificate in Captioning.

Stagetext regularly visits drama schools to give An Introduction To Theatre Access to students on Technical, Stage Management and Performing Arts courses. These sessions are run in conjunction with VocalEyes the national audio description charity. We feel giving artists and practitioners of the future an introduction to theatre access in the early stages of their career helps them adopt best practice when they go out into the industry.

Rosey, a Stage Management student, attended a session in 2016 and was inspired by the process of captioning. She approached us to ask if she could learn the basics of captioning and caption a student production for Guildhall as part of her final project.

The training and performance went so well Stagetext offered her the opportunity to take a formal exam to become a Stagetext qualified captioner. Rosey captioned Filthy Business at Hampstead Theatre on 20th April and passed her exam making her a fully-fledged Stagetext captioner.

Stagetext will be working with Guildhall School of Speech and Drama to offer more opportunities in the future.
