Join the Queen of Crime as she travels back in time to kick off an exciting new series. 1979 takes place during the winter of discontent, when reporter Allie Burns is chasing her first big scoop. As one of the only women in the newsroom, she’s looking for something explosive to break into the boys’ club. Soon she’s embroiled in exposing respectable Scotland’s criminal underbelly — making dangerous enemies along the way.

About the author: Val McDermid is an award-winning, number one bestseller whose novels have sold over seventeen million copies. She’s a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Society of Edinburgh and has been a judge for the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Man Booker Prize, and Chair of the Wellcome Book Prize in 2017.
