About STAGETEXT
STAGETEXT is a registered charity which provides captioning and live speech-to-text services to theatres and other arts venues to make their activities accessible to people who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing.
It was established in May 2000 by Peter Pullan, Merfyn Williams and Geoff Brown, each of whom had varying types of deafness and a determination to improve access to the performing arts for all deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.
STAGETEXT is a regularly funded organisation of Arts Council England.
STAGETEXT film
The following film was taken at an event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of STAGETEXT at the Lyceum Theatre, London, in November 2011, prior to a captioned performance of The Lion King. It also includes vox pops from deaf, deafened and hard of hearing theatregoers.
STAGETEXT has produced a number of other short films about its work and these can be found here or on our YouTube Channel.
