Sculpture Talk: Ayse Erkmen | Available Now image
Synopsis:

Ayşe Erkmen, whose practice and in particular, her site-specific works have been etched in memory, takes the social and physical environment that she is in as a starting point and by repositioning the existing structure in her particular style, impels viewers to think about space. The artist invites viewers to engage deeply in dialogue with the physical, visual, social, and psychological dimensions of environments such as museum galleries, gallery windows, exhibition spaces, parks, rivers, and squares.

Ayşe Erkmen made one of the major commissions for Yorkshire Sculpture International 2019. This installation was made in response to the Central Court in Leeds Art Gallery.

In this talk, given at Leeds Beckett University in 2019, Ayşe Erkmen explores some of her most ambitious works. This event was part of the INSIDE/OUT Lecture Series by the Leeds Beckett University School of Art, Architecture & Design and Yorkshire Sculpture International.
