Anamnesis is Greek for ‘recollection of the past’. It’s also the title of Iona Lee’s latest poetry collection which prompted Darren McGarvey to write, ‘Lee performs open-heart surgery on the English language’. Similar could be said for Jenni Fagan’s A Swan’s Neck on a Butcher Block – poems of startling honesty that return to and reimagine night-time to magical effect.
