The Estate – Subtitled Premiere on National Theatre at Home

Exciting news! During Captioning Awareness Week, you can join Stagetext for a special collaboration with National Theatre at Home as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations. You can watch the digitally subtitled premiere of The Estate on National Theatre at Home being live streamed on 12 November at 7pm and we’re asking you to tune in and watch it with us.

We’re asking subscribers to join us online and share your photos as part of a watch party to celebrate 25 years of Stagetext bringing deaf access to arts and culture. The play has digital subtitles by Stagetext so you can fully enjoy the show.

On the night, you can watch the filmed production live alongside audiences around the world from the comfort of your home. You can even chat to other viewers about the play!

We’ve been subtitling National Theatre at Home shows since the platform launched in 2020, and we’re thrilled to be part of The Estate‘s digital premiere. The Estate will join the catalogue of over 100 titles available to stream on National Theatre at Home. This means you can watch your favourite theatre shows from the comfort of your own home.

Audiences can also access BSL-interpreted, audio-described and non-subtitled versions of the production.

What’s a Watch Party?
Everyone watches the performance of The Estate at the same time from their own homes and shares photos of watching it online to help promote Stagetext, Captioning Awareness Week and the National Theatre At Home. You can watch on your own or with friends and family – whatever works for you!

What photos does Stagetext want for the Watch Party?
Take a photo of your yourself with the TV in the background so you can see the subtitles on the screen. Not keen on selfies? That’s fine, take a photo of the TV screen showing the captions instead.

Do I need a subscription to watch?
You can access the premiere as well as a library of over 100 productions available to stream on demand with a monthly or annual subscription to National Theatre at Home. Visit ntathome.com for subscription options and pricing.

Or you can purchase one off access to the premiere.

How do the subtitles work?
For the premiere on 12 November, the subtitles will be burnt-in to the streaming video  (they’re part of the video itself). For on-demand viewing from 13 November onwards, you can choose between the subtitled version for full plays by following these instructions or access other accessibility options including BSL interpretation and audio description.

Can I watch it later that evening?
The live stream is a live broadcast of the pre-recorded play. It will begin at 7:00 PM, with a 10-minute pre-show buffer to give audiences time to set up, purchase access, or seek help for any technical issues.

Viewers who join after the stream begins will enter at the current point of the broadcast, not from the start. While most devices support pausing and rewinding, some may not. For the best experience, we recommend joining at the official start time and avoiding pausing or rewinding during the stream. There will also be a 5-minute intermission halfway through the performance, giving audiences a chance to take a short break.
