What Dogs Want, with Mat Ward – HLF22 image

Which breed is right for you? How can you stop your dog pulling? Do dogs like hugs? What’s the meaning of ‘woof’?
In this online event, internationally recognised expert on dog behaviour Mat Ward offers sound advice on dog – and human – behaviour, as found in his book What Dogs Want: An Illustrated Guide for HAPPY dog care and training illustrated by Rupert Fawcett.
For Mat, the secret to success is knowing that dogs and humans are both full of potential (to prove it, he once taught a rescue dog how to fly a plane). His tips for being the world’s best owner explain everything you need to know, from how to avoid separation anxiety to why dogs wag their tails.
Learn how your pet’s brain really works and discover amazing, direct ways to train them at any age from puppy upwards.
Mat will be interviewed by Festival Director Michelle Hodgson (owned by a 10-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux!) and there will be a chance for you to pose questions about your own pooches.
Mat Ward is a dog behaviourist who champions reward-based training. Over the past two decades, he has helped thousands of pets and owners improve their wellbeing. His skills were tested to the limit when he took on the challenge of teaching a rescue dog to fly a plane for the TV show Dogs Might Fly. Mat lives in New Zealand with his wife, children, two cats and two dogs.
