In this talk, Dr Lucy Davis will explore in greater depth the miniatures at the Wallace Collection, which were collected by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace. She will discuss highlights and less well-known examples from the collection, focussing particularly but not exclusively on the British miniatures. She will explore the different techniques and materials used by miniature painters over the centuries, and the range of subject matter represented in our collection. Also to be discussed is the original function of these miniatures. Why did women often become specialists in miniature painting? She will examine more closely the fascinating personalities of the artists who contributed to this great art form.
Registration and Location: This talk will be hosted online through Zoom and YouTube.
