Macbeth in Context: Free CPD for GCSE English Literature Teachers image
Synopsis:

Join Associate Director of Leeds Playhouse Amy Leach, literary theory specialist and author Carol Atherton, and teacher-author Patrick Cragg for this exciting workshop.
Delve into the symbolic contrasts of male and female, light and shade, whilst exploring both literary and historical context, discussing how Shakespeare leaned into Britain’s obsession with the supernatural to create his famous tragedy.
• Amy Leach will discuss how key staging decisions create a visceral and vibrant exploration of her current production of the play whilst remaining true to the original text.
• Carol Atherton will investigate context, language and form to analyse how Shakespeare portrayed and represented women within the play.
• Patrick Cragg (@GCSE_Macbeth) will explore and share ready-to-teach classroom ideas, using rich non-fiction sources from the British Library’s Discovering Literature website.
Following the event, delegates will receive a digital resource pack, collated by Patrick Cragg, featuring practical teaching ideas for a range of Discovering Literature collection items.
