Engender Festival 2022: Opera-in-progress: Where does the air go? image
Synopsis:

A new work unpacks the intricacies of breath, and the way it changes across a day in the life of one woman.
Bongile G Lecoge-Zulu, Clare Loveday and Amira Kheir unpack the intricacies of breath and the ways in which it changes across a day in the life of one woman. They explore the conscious and unconscious factors that influence a woman’s breath and ask: what are the physical, social, political, historical, individual, and collective factors that impact a woman’s state of being? How do these manifest? Can reclaiming the breath become an act of resistance?

The Engender opera-in-progress series offers audiences a glimpse into the opera making process, a chance to hear directly from artists, and an opportunity to understand how ideas evolve. It is presented in partnership with Shubbak Festival and The Centre for Less Good Ideas, South Africa, and supported by The British Council.
