Synopsis:

Dr. Marcus Burke explores the remarkable works and artists brought together in this landmark exhibition of Spanish and Hispanic art.
In this talk, Senior Curator, emeritus, of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library, New York, Dr. Marcus Burke, introduces the exhibition Spain and the Hispanic World, highlighting the most extensive collection of Spanish art outside of Spain.
 
Drawn from the collections of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library and presented for the first time in the UK, the exhibition contains masterpieces by Goya, El Greco, Velázquez and Sorolla alongside a stunning selection of sculptures, paintings, textiles, ceramics, jewellery, and rare art works from Latin America. In his talk, Burke will share his knowledge of these treasures from the collection and explore the rich story of Spanish and Hispanic art and culture from the ancient world to the early 20th century.
Dr. Marcus B. Burke is Senior Curator, emeritus, in the Museum Department, Hispanic Society Museum & Library, New York. He has been a guest curator, consultant and lecturer for museums and galleries across the world, specialising in Spanish and Latin American art. He has also served on the faculties of several universities including New York University Institute of Fine Arts and Yale University.
