We‘d be delighted if you could join us for one of these free online events about Captions Speak Louder, the UK’s first exhibition on the history of theatre captioning.
These events will be hosted on Zoom, and live subtitles will be provided.
Theatre captioning makes performances accessible to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing audiences. It is similar to subtitling on TV or film, but the captions are displayed on screens at the front of the theatre.
These free events offer you an opportunity to learn about the history of theatre captions, as well as to share what access means to you. The talks include previously unseen videos from our archive, featuring those who benefit from captioning, the charity’s founders, the staff and its supporters, who have all worked to make the arts accessible to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.
