We‘d be delighted if you could join us for one of these free online events about Captions Speak Louder, the UK’s first exhibition on the history of theatre captioning.
These events will be hosted on Zoom, and live subtitles will be provided.
Theatre captioning makes performances accessible to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing audiences. It is similar to subtitling on TV or film, but the captions are displayed on screens at the front of the theatre.
These free events offer you an opportunity to learn about the history of theatre captions, as well as to share what access means to you. The talks include previously unseen videos from our archive, featuring those who benefit from captioning, the charity’s founders, the staff and its supporters, who have all worked to make the arts accessible to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.
Please join us online:

Tuesday 11th October, 6pm to 7pm
Tuesday 18th October, 6pm to 7pm
Tuesday 15th November, 6pm to 7pm
Thursday 17th November, 12pm to 1pm
Tuesday 6th December, 6pm to 7pm
Tuesday 13th December, 6pm to 7pm.

Once registered, the link to join the Zoom event will be sent out 24 hours before the start of your event.
The Captions Speak Louder exhibition has been touring venues across the UK since November 2021 and it is on its way to three more venues.

Festival Theatre, Edinburgh – 5 to 30 Oct 2022

Stagetext have been championing access to the arts for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing communities for over twenty years. Captions Speak Louder brings to life the impact of accessible arts and celebrates the growth of theatre captioning over two decades.
