Captions Speak Louder exhibition talk image
Synopsis:

We‘d be delighted if you could join us for the free online event about Captions Speak Louder, the UK’s first exhibition on the history of theatre captioning. The event will be hosted on Zoom, and live subtitles will be provided.

Theatre captioning makes performances accessible to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing audiences. It is similar to subtitling on TV or film, but the captions are displayed on screens at the front of the theatre.
This free event offers you an opportunity to learn about the history of theatre captions, as well as to share what access means to you. The talk will include previously unseen videos from our archive, featuring those who benefit from captioning, the charity’s founders, the staff and its supporters, who have all worked to make the arts accessible to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.

Please join us online:
Tuesday 24th January, 6pm to 7pm.

Once registered, the link to join the Zoom event will be sent out 24 hours before the start of your event.
The Captions Speak Louder exhibition has been touring venues across the UK since November 2021.
Stagetext have been championing access to the arts for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing communities for over twenty years. Captions Speak Louder brings to life the impact of accessible arts and celebrates the growth of theatre captioning over two decades.
