Talk Online I Craft Live: Illustrated Posters

Online I Craft Live: Illustrated Posters

Synopsis

Create an A4 poster artwork exploring self-care and self-love on our online course.

Making use of materials found at home and led by illustrator Erin Aniker (who created the artwork for our exhibition Unfinished Business: The Fight for Women’s Rights), create an A4 poster artwork exploring self-care and self-love. We will look at the visual artwork of See Red Women’s workshops and the words of renowned women’s rights activists Audre Lorde and Bell Hooks as our inspiration and starting point.

Much of See Red Women’s artwork and ethos was about redefining the ways in which gender norms were re-enforced through visual imagery and advertising. We will be thinking about this and Audre Lorde’s thoughts on self-care as an act of self-preservation and a political act and Bell Hooks’ words about love and self-love.

You’ll create your A4 poster artwork as an expression of care and love to yourself, focusing on the ways in which we view and show care and love to ourselves on the theme of ‘Finding Joy’.

We will each be celebrating something about ourselves that brings us joy, actively rejecting and regardless of whether we fit in with expected societal or gender constraints.

This course takes place on Zoom and we will email you a joining link the day before. There will be an opportunity to reflect on your experience with your fellow participants in online break-out rooms and share your responses with the tutor.
