Recent research has challenged the established view of Oliver Cromwell's puritan hostility to the visual arts. Not only did he reserve part of the Royal Collection after the execution of Charles I, artists created portraits of him modelled on those of the late king. Dr Richard Williams has been Learning Curator for the Royal Collection Trust at Windsor Castle since 2017. He is an art historian who has published an extensive body of research on Tudor England.
