Talk Drawing the Bombay Plague

Drawing the Bombay Plague

‘Whither go? Whither fly?’, Ranjit Kandalgaonkar 2017

Synopsis

Join us for a conversation about historical and contemporary narratives surrounding plague outbreaks, from individual experiences to interventions by authorities. This event is inspired by artist Ranjit Kandalgaonkar’s new commission for the ‘Ayurvedic Man’ exhibition, for which he has drawn upon archival material from the Wellcome Library and Hindi Punch images, accessed from the Asiatic Library in Mumbai, to explore the 1896 Bombay plague epidemic.

Ranjit Kandalgaonkar’s residency at Gasworks is supported by the Charles Wallace India Trust and Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation
