Ham & High Litfest: Marcel Theroux - The Secret Books

Key facts

Genre: Event with live subtitles

Synopsis

Marcel Theroux discusses his latest novel, a page-turning adventure which takes the reader on a spellbinding journey across 19th-century Paris, the Russian Empire and the high plateau of India through a world of spies, double-cross propaganda and revolutionary violence, lost-love and anti-semitism, the lost gospel of Jesus’ missing years and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Based on real events, The Secret Books tells us that nothing is more dangerous than a story.

The Secret Books, ingenious, stylish, at once sardonic and accommodating, is a meditation on our abiding need for stories, which itself has a gloriously entertaining story to tell.’ John Banville.

Marcel Theroux is a writer and broadcaster. His previous novels include: The Paperchase (winner of the 2002 Somerset Maugham Award), Far North (shortlisted for America's prestigious National Book Award), and Strange Bodies. He is a regular presenter of Unreported World on Channel 4.

Part of the Hampstead and Highgate Literary Festival.
