Synopsis

Hear from Norwegian literary sensation Karl Ove Knausgaard as he publishes his latest book, Autumn. Addressed to his unborn daughter, the work is a profound meditation on the details of daily life and the world she will inherit.

Known for his radical openness that has redefined the contemporary novel, the author reflects on the pleasures and perils of writing, and the world being left behind for the next generation. Recipient of numerous awards and near universal critical acclaim, Knausgaard’s multi-volume novel drew deeply on the intimate details of his own life and became a literary phenomena, selling over one million copies in a country of a population of five million, going on to be translated into 22 languages.

Published in English to date as A Death in the Family, A Man in Love, Boyhood Island, Dancing in the Dark, and Some Rain Must Fall, Knausgaard combines searing personal honesty about the details of daily life with a mesmerising intensity and precision of language. With Zadie Smith declaring ‘It's unbelievable... It's completely blown my mind' and Jeffrey Eugenides stating Knausgaard ‘broke the sound barrier of the autobiographical novel’, few writers have had a more seismic impact on the state of literature today.

Knausgaard is in conversation with Ted Hodgkinson, Southbank Centre’s Senior Programmer for Literature and Spoken Word, about capturing reality on the page, and also offers an insight into the final volume of his celebrated series.
