Captioning in East Anglia launches with Ayckbourn comedy
A co-production between the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich, and the Mercury Theatre in Colchester, marked the launch of captioning services in East Anglia. Alan Ayckbourn’s A Chorus of Disapproval was captioned at the New Wolsey on 25 February and at the Mercury Theatre on 17 March. Along with the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds, they are the latest three venues to join the See a Voice project and share captioning equipment and local captioners.

STAGETEXT’s first encounter with Shared Experience was in 2003 when we captioned their highly acclaimed production of After Mrs Rochester at the Lyric Hammersmith. Calling all captioned theatre lovers in Derbyshire!
Last year, deaf, deafened and hard of hearing theatregoers from the Chesterfield/Derbyshire formed ACT (Accessing Captioned Theatre), a group which organises trips to captioned shows. ACT was borne out of the Sheffield Captioned Support Group which had been running for several years, but as many of the newer members were from Chesterfield it seemed sensible to have two groups.
