Three cheers for Marcel, Olympic Torchbearer!

STAGETEXT Finance Officer Marcel Jenkins thoroughly enjoyed his moment of glory this week when he carried the Olympic Torch through Lewisham in South London on day 66 of the relay.

Marcel, who volunteers as treasurer and webmaster for a voluntary community group, was selected to take part because of his tireless energy and enthusiasm in promoting access to and enjoyment of facilities in his local park. He has also been a driving force behind the Blythe Hill Festival over the past five years, organising the Friends of Blythe Hill.

Expressing his surprise and delight at being nominated earlier this year, Marcel said: "I am thrilled to be one of Lewisham's torchbearers - it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and underlines for me how everyone can be involved in their community. The Friends is an example of people coming together to make things happen and work hard to improve the lives and opportunities of friends and neighbours. We've not been afraid to roll up our sleeves to improve things."
