Curator & Exhibition Designer (freelance)

Stagetext is seeking a freelance Curator & Exhibition Designer for an exciting new project, Captions Speak Louder: Discovering the Story of Open Captioning. This is a freelance contract is for approximately 8 weeks worth of work over a 7 month period starting April 2020 and finishing in October 2020.

Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Captions Speak Louder is an archive and an exhibition about the development of open captioning over the last 20 years, and how it has enabled millions of d/Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people across the UK to have equal access to arts and culture.

You will be responsible for designing and producing a lightweight modular exhibition, using materials from the Stagetext archive selected in consultation with our User Panel of d/Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing volunteers. The exhibition will be installed at the National Theatre in October 2020 and will be launched in November 2020 to coincide with Stagetext's 20th birthday. It will subsequently tour theatres and cultural venues across England.


Fixed Freelance Fee £5,500

Fee is based on an expectation that work will take approximately 8 weeks, working over a 7 month period starting April 2020, finishing October 2020
