First captioned shows at London’s Tricycle Theatre!
Great news! For the first time ever, the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn, North West London, has programmed two captioned performances in their new season. The first is a new play, Red Velvet, starring Adrian Lester as Ira Aldridge, one of the most remarkable interpreters of Shakespearean roles. This world premiere of Lolita Chakrabarti's new play launches Indhu Rubasingham’s reign as The Tricycle Theatre’s new artistic director.
This will be followed by their Christmas production, The Arabian Nights.
Here are the details:
Red Velvet, Tuesday 13 November, 8pm
Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, 1833. Edmund Kean, the greatest actor of his generation, has collapsed on stage whilst playing Othello. A young black American actor has been asked to take over the role. But as the public riot in the streets over the abolition of slavery, how will the cast, critics and audience react to the revolution taking place in the theatre?
Adrian Lester returns to the stage for the first time since appearing in the all-black revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in the West End, as well as leading roles in Henry V (National Theatre) and Peter Brook’s Hamlet (Young Vic). He will be playing the title role in Othello at the National Theatre in 2013.
