Over the last 10 years Stagetext have been happily sharing an office with VocalEyes, our sister charity, in Spitalfields. It’s lovely but it’s become unaffordable, the rent here will be doubling, and we can't justify remaining.
Because of this we have decided to move together to the Elephant and Castle this January, an up and coming area, which offers more affordable rent but with easy access to the heart of London’s culture.
Our new office will offer a lot of opportunities, being well connected to local and national theatres and museums, as well as being easy for people to visit us. But we need your help to ensure that our new offices are fully accessible.
We discovered it would be more affordable to make alterations to a new office rather than to find somewhere that is already fully accessible, but we need to raise the money to help make this happen.
We will need to raise an additional £20,000 over the Christmas period. This will help us pay for a wheelchair lift, adapting the toilets, adding ramps and flashing alarms, along with the general costs of moving. As the new office will not be considered a public space, we are not eligible for any grants for this.
We know Father Christmas is always as generous as possible but if you would also like to contribute and help us be fully accessible, all donations this Christmas go towards ensuring Stagetext and VocalEyes are not only providing access to the arts but providing access to our staff and our visitors as well.
We need your donations.
Donate £100+ and our CEO, Melanie Sharpe, will send you a personal thank you along with the complete selection of Stagetext badges.

If you'd like to choose your own present, we also love to be surprised. No matter the size of your donation they will all help with making the new office accessible and to help us continue working in theatres, museums, and galleries across the country, ensuring access to the one in five of us who are d/Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing.
One-off donations or continuous donations can be set up through our website. You can see all the ways you can donate on our website.
Along with the general costs of moving, including boxes, crates, and bubble wrap, there are a few large access items and improvements that we need to pay for.
Wheelchair Lift | £11,000
Our new offices have a number of steps upon entry, a new lift will ensure that any visitors with access needs can easily enter our offices, allowing us to hold meetings, host guests in a welcoming environment, and be ready for any future employees with access needs.
Accessible Toilet Conversion | £5,000
Though the office already has a toilet it is not suitable for visitors who use a wheelchair or visitors with other access needs. We will need to make suitable adjustments to be sure our toilet meets access requirements.
Additional Access & General Costs | £4,000+
These additional costs include ramps at the front door, refitting the alarm system to include flashing lights for our d/Deaf and hard of hearing staff, as well as other general costs of moving.
We welcome donations of any type and any size. If you would like to make a regular donation you can do this online with Virgin Giving or by setting up a standing order. To see how to set this up and the full list of other ways you can donate please visit our "Support Us" page.
